Truth and Reconciliation Day September 30, 2023

“One of the most memorable days of my life where we started with a sunrise pipe ceremony and sacred fire burning throughout the day. This event brought Indigenous elders, residential school survivors, leaders, knowledge keepers, singers, dancers and community members together with City officials, the public art, Urban Indigenous Strategy and AOR teams, supporters, volunteers and residents of Hamilton to honour residential school survivors and to remember the children who never made it home. The City of Hamilton now has a dedicated space for the Indigenous and Hamilton community to gather. This event was Reconciliation in action. It was beautiful to see such a sea of orange shirts! Chi miigwetch to everyone who came out to support and be in ceremony with us!”
